No matter what time of the year, visitors will find a fantastic selection of cultural festivals and community events here in Thorold.

Visit the City in early spring and take in the “Mountain Top” ceremony at the Lock 7 Viewing Complex. This annual celebration marks the opening of the Welland Canal’s shipping season with the arrival of the first ship of the year through Lock 7 (late March).

Spring also brings warmer temperatures and maple sugar time! Visitors can experience firsthand, maple sugar making and enjoy other springtime events (late February to mid-March). Also take the family to St. Johns Conservation Area to enjoy the opening day of trout fishing in their stocked spring-fed pond (late April).

May 24th weekend welcomes back the roar of the engines at Merrittville Speedway – enjoy an evening of power and speed as the cars take to the 3/8-mile dirt track.

As the warm days of spring give way to summer's heat, Thorold comes alive with a host of events. Take part in the City's Feast of the Assumption or Feast of St. Anthony. Experience Italia-in-Festa, a two-day extravaganza, celebrating Thorold's vibrant Italian community. Enjoy fabulous food, exceptional local wines and traditional Italian entertainment at this outstanding festival. Spring brings the 34th Annual Arts and Crafts Show, the Thorold in Bloom Garden Tour and the Annual Community Garage Sale.

Interested in antique cars? Be sure to visit downtown Thorold in July for this year's Car Show. Also in July, the Book Depot offers reading enthusiasts a chance to explore their Giant Book Sale held at the Thorold Arena.

In autumn, take a drive through the colourful countryside and celebrate the coming of harvest at the Howell Family Pumpkin Farm. Enjoy wagon rides, a haunted barn, pumpkin pie and of course, the ‘Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off ’ (stare in awe at the sight of pumpkins weighing in at over 1000 lbs!). Chase away the October greys… with the Blues. The Canal Bank shuffle, a three-day Blues Festival has the City coming alive with music and dance.

With winter’s approach, comes a nip in the air and the anticipation of the Christmas season. Celebrate this festive time of year with Thorold’s Annual Santa Claus Parade and the marvelous November Arts and Crafts Show. Visit Santa’s Village located in downtown Thorold, where Santa himself is waiting to hear everyone’s secret Christmas wish. During the Christmas season, enjoy free gift-wrapping for all purchases bought at our fine downtown businesses.
